i had a meeting scheduled with volkswagen back a year and half ago. i left home an hour early since i live in jumeirah lake towers and their office is all the way near the airport- terminal 2. i got in my car and checked the gauge and it seemed that the car would be able to @ least take me to the petrol station near Wafi.
i was driving while listening to music and as soon as i got under the tunnel before Wafi, the car starts making noises and starts to stop. i was still convinced that it had nothing to do with the fuel so kept driving until it got to a point where the car stopped responding to everything i did. 0.o
my little baby stopped in the middle of the road! i was lucky enough that there was a petrol station 1.5 km away. got out of the car and started running. i arrived @ the station sweating from top to bottom since the temperature in Dubai today was 43! i then found an empty 4 liters gallon and asked the dude to fill it. while he was filling it, i started asking all taxi drivers there if they could drop me back to the car. it was already 3:00 pm and most of them finished their duty! after asking around 5 taxi drivers, i finally found one to drop me back.
we drove back to my car, filled the 4 liters and drove back to the same station to fill more. all of this took an hour and a half!
i arrived to the meeting @ 4:30 smelling like gasoline but the good thing is that the VW crew were understandable when i called them as soon as the car stopped.
moral of the post: don’t assume that the amount of gasoline available “may” be enough. when you have a long trip, fill it up!
